First wash: after 120 hours
Do not routinely wash the treated area for the first 5 full days (120 hours from the end of each session). You may take a short lukewarm body shower, protecting the treated area from shower water and heavy steam. After 120 hours, wash your hands, gently wet the scalp with lukewarm water, use a little mild fragrance-free shampoo with your fingertips and rinse straight away. Pat dry with a clean soft towel. Initially, one gentle wash daily is enough. Do not use nails, massage, a strong jet or remove scabs. Have open, bleeding or weeping areas assessed first.
Do not wait if contamination occurs
Dry aftercare does not mean leaving contamination on your skin. For dirty water, soil or other contamination, rinse gently with clean drinking water, pat dry without rubbing and inform the clinic. For chemicals, do not wait five days: use appropriate first aid and seek medical help if needed. A few clean water drops do not automatically mean damage; pat dry rather than rubbing or disinfecting. Avoid long, very hot showers during the first two weeks, even after washing begins.
When to seek help
Call 112 for breathing difficulty, tongue or throat swelling or fainting. Call your GP or huisartsenpost immediately for bleeding that will not stop. Spreading redness, increasing warmth or swelling, open wounds or significant blisters need same-day medical assessment. Increasing pain, pus, foul-smelling discharge, fever or chills require prompt medical help. Also inform the clinic, but never wait for a photo reply when infection or a serious reaction is suspected. Request a clinic review for persistent raised dots, intensely itchy rash or unwanted pigment changes; also contact a doctor for pain or inflammation.
Applying this to your situation
Prepare a clean pillowcase, quieter activities and the clinic’s contact details before treatment day. Keep skin clean without rubbing or repeatedly touching it to check. Save questions for follow-up, but contact the appropriate professional sooner for increasing pain, swelling or redness.
Can pigment look darker immediately afterwards?
A stronger appearance, sensitivity and mild redness can occur initially. It is too early to judge final colour. Avoid repeated touching or trying to change the appearance with products. Follow aftercare and the agreed photo schedule. If symptoms worsen rather than improve, contact the clinic and a clinician when appropriate.
What we consider in your assessment
Have your aftercare information ready before the appointment. At home, follow what was agreed for your skin. If an instruction is unclear, ask the team before adding a product or extra care step.
