Visual density can be discussed for a visible crown, widening parting or diffuse thinning. Existing hair, preferred length and scalp condition influence suitability. SMP does not thicken individual hairs or create extra volume.
An honest assessment first
Sudden, rapid or unexplained hair loss should first be discussed with a clinician. A cosmetic consultation does not diagnose it. Disclose procedures, medication and scalp concerns. We also discuss how continuing hair loss may change the appearance.

Assessing your hair in everyday lighting
Wet hair or harsh lighting can look different from your everyday hairstyle. We therefore consider several angles, dry hair and your usual styling. For density work, the relationship between existing hairs and visible scalp matters more than an arbitrary number of pigment dots. We also discuss whether thinning is changing. Within HM, questions about existing hair and other treatment options can be considered alongside the cosmetic SMP goal, helping your plan account for possible changes.
Softer contrast, with your own hair as the foundation
Density work places pigment between existing hairs. A lighter scalp can show particularly around the crown, parting or under direct light. Pigment softens that contrast to make the overall pattern more cohesive. Your own hair remains the foundation; SMP does not change hair thickness or count. We assess whether sufficient hair is present, how you wear it and what is achievable from your starting point. Several photographic angles and an in-person scalp assessment guide the treatment areas.
Density work within a wider hair plan
Density work can form part of a wider hair-loss discussion. You may have had a transplant or want to understand what your existing hair needs. The HM team can discuss those questions together and determine which assessment should come first. We explain the visual contribution of pigment and what belongs to another treatment, so the steps are coordinated. Your existing hair sets the starting point
For density work, pigment and existing hair act together. We assess how your hair falls, where you part it and which areas remain visible in your usual style. A crown needs a different distribution from an elongated parting or thinning front. Hair-to-skin contrast matters too. We discuss whether the desired effect fits your coverage: pigment can reduce scalp show-through but does not replace hair volume. If hair loss changes, the design may need review. Within HM, questions about existing hair and other treatment routes can be discussed alongside SMP.
