Pigment impressions rather than hair
SMP places small pigment impressions in the scalp. With closely shaved hair, these can blend with the appearance of hair stubble. Between existing hairs, they may reduce the contrast with visible scalp. It does not create new follicles. Pigment cannot grow, be combed or be styled like hair. A consultation therefore considers both the look you like and how you want to wear your hair every day.
Three different goals
A hairline and shaved look, visual density and scar camouflage start from different situations. Density work requires suitable existing hair. Scar work depends on healing and skin texture; pigment does not remove a scar. A shaved look needs a considered hairline and a transition into the sides and back. Choosing the right category is about more than the size of an area.
What should a consultation cover?
Discuss your expectations, usual hair length and any previous procedures. Ask what effect is realistic, which aftercare applies and how the plan will be built. The skin needs an individual assessment. Photographs can prepare the discussion but cannot show every aspect of skin condition. A free consultation does not oblige you to book. For a bare area we discuss whether a close shaving routine suits you; for density work we assess the contrast between scalp and hair. The proposal describes the areas, expected stages and cost. If pigment cannot achieve your goal, we discuss that before you decide.
